We are urging anyone who has installed radar systems onto their fleet check they are actually DVS 2 Compliant from October 2024. The more fleet managers we talk to, the more we are learning that they are bing mis sold DVS 2 Kits claiming they will be compliant from October 2024.
If you have purchased a kit that is camera based, radar based with a flat MOIS radar or a combination of both, you may not be compliant come October 2024.
MOIS and BSIS radar sensors not fully covering blind spots as per the PSS requirements and the use of only camera systems for either the MOIS or BSIS or both is not sufficient to fulfil the PSS requirements.
As evidence grows that certain devices claiming to satisfy London's Direct Vision Standards (DVS) are actually non-compliant, putting the lives of vulnerable road users and pedestrians in the city at risk, hauliers are being cautioned to examine the radar systems in their fleets.
In response to industry concerns that some moving off information (MOIS) radar systems—particularly those with flat casings—do not offer the sensor range required by DVS 2, endangering cyclists and pedestrians who are in a truck's frontal blind spot.
The DVS requirements are not met by these non-compliant radar systems; some of the the flat radar devices only offer a 150 degree range rather than the 180 degree range.
We urge all fleet and transport managers to check they are compliant if they want to avoid fines in October to their fleet. The responsibility falls on the company to ensure the DVS 2 rules are met on vehicles.
