DVS Kits - Common Questions... Answered!

19th August 2024

What are the new DVS Requirements?

The DVS requirements are changing. HGVs weighing more than 12 tonnes will require a Progressive Safe System installation or at least a three-star rating in order to operate in Greater London as of October 28, 2024. Although the vehicle's overall safety is increased, the Progressive Safe System installation leaves the vehicle's star rating unchanged.

How can I obtain a DVS?

Procedure for Obtaining a DVS Permit

  • Find out how many stars you have. We can check your star rating for you at no cost, or you can check it with your manufacturer.
  • Install safety equipment that complies with the enhanced DVS Progressive Safe System specifications.
  • Take pictures to submit with your application for a permit.
  • Complete the application.

In what ways has the DVS changed?

The minimum DVS star rating will increase from one to three stars, which is the primary change to the standard that will take effect in October 2024. This implies that any vehicle that has received three stars or more can apply for a permit without having to make any modifications.

What area does the DVS scheme cover?

Covering the majority of Greater London, the London DVS Zone is effectively the same area as the Low Emission Zone. It is open around-the-clock, barring bank holidays. To operate in the DVS Zone, HGVs weighing more than 12 tonnes (GVW) must adhere to the safety regulations set forth by the DVS.
